Access to your personal health information is available to those who need to know to provide care, including: physicians, nurses, technicians, therapists and other health professionals. Furthermore, when it comes to collecting and using your personal health information, we take measures to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of the information is protected. UHN's Privacy Office UHN's Privacy Office is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information under the custody or control of UHN in accordance with Ontario’s Health Information Protection Act, public expectations for privacy and internationally accepted fair information principles. The Health Information Protection Act, comprised of both the Personal Health Information Protection Act and the Quality of Care Information Protection Act, came into effect November 1, 2004. In addition, the Privacy Office is committed to establishing standards of privacy, confidentiality and data security to protect the personal health information of UHN patients. The Office consists of a Corporate Privacy Officer (CPO) and a privacy team that is educated and trained to provide privacy guidance in the healthcare field. We were established at UHN to be a resource for privacy information, for policy development, including the UHN privacy policy and for educating all UHN staff, patients and visitors on privacy issues.
